Bringing a companion

2 May 2018

Did you know that you can bring a relative, carer or friend to your assessment?

We encourage our customers to bring a companion to provide moral support and, if needed, to contribute to the discussion about your health condition or disability. While the discussion with the Healthcare Professional will always be focused on you, your companion can help you to provide us with the information we need to make an accurate assessment of how your condition impacts your daily life.

Should you decide to bring someone to your assessment, please let the assessor know who they are and how you would like them to be involved. If there are any parts of the assessment you would like to undertake alone, just ask the assessor to pause the assessment so your companion can return to the waiting area.

CHDA may also pay for travel fares of a companion, relative, carer or young children who would otherwise be left unattended. If you wish to claim travel expenses for a companion to travel with you, please call our customer enquiry team before your assessment on 0800 288 8777.

If you have any questions about your assessment, visit the FAQ section on this website, call us on 0800 288 8777 or email between Monday and Fridays, 9am to 5pm.
