Reading station, served by Great Western Railway, CrossCountry and South Western Railway services, is approximately 10 to 15 minutes’ walk from the Assessment Centre. On leaving the station, continue down Station Road towards the city centre. On reaching Broad Street, turn right and continue onto Oxford Road, then turn left onto Queens Walk just before the Pentahotel. The entrance to Fountain House is located between New Look and Pepe Sale Italian restaurant.

The Assessment Centre is in Fountain House, alongside the Broad Street Shopping Mall. From the A33 / A239: exit at Castle Street and follow the signs to the Broad Street Mall Car Park. Exit onto Oxford Road / Broad Street. Queens Walk is a pedestrian route located next to the Pentahotel with the entrance to Fountain House approximately 150 metres ahead on the eastern side of the walk.


The nearest bus stops are located on Oxford Road and St. Mary’s Butts. Bus routes 15, 15T, 15a, 16, 16S and 17 call at the Cheapside stop on Oxford Road (note that routes 15 and 16 also run from Reading railway station). Numerous bus routes also call in St. Mary’s Butts outside the Broad Street Shopping Mall. Park & Ride services run to Reading city centre from the south of the city (Madejski Stadium or Mereoak) and the east of the city (Winnersh Triangle).

Notes from this Centre

Please note: the Assessment Centre is located on the 7th floor of Fountain House. The Centre can be accessed by lift, but if an emergency evacuation of the building is required, such as a fire alarm, the lift cannot be used. If you think that you would have difficulty going down the stairs in the event of an emergency or would need assistance from another person, please ring the Appointments Helpdesk number on your appointment letter at least two days before your appointment date so that we can make alternative arrangements for you.
